SAT

The SAT can be a major factor in college admissions. The exam contains the following sections: Math (no calculator, Math (calculator), Reading, and Writing, with an optional essay. Earning a top score requires not only a mastery of the content but also excellent time management and testing strategy.

As an SAT private tutor, I will work with your child to develop a personalized study plan based on your child's needs, strengths, and goals, and continually adapt my approach as we make progress together.

Students Taking Exams

Math (Calculator and No Calculator)

Math is the most common challenge for SAT students. This section covers a wide variety of content in arithmetic, algebra, and geometry. While the concepts tested are relatively simple, they are presented in many different ways that often require a strong number sense and creative problem solving. I help students develop core skills, identify and correct areas of weakness, and learn how to approach challenging questions.

Reading

The SAT Reading section covers skills such as identifying the author's purpose, finding supporting evidence, defining words in context, and using charts and graphs to supplement a passage. Texts draw from literature, science, history, and social science. I help students learn to read quickly and effectively, analyze answer choices, and find textual support for their answers.

Writing

This section asks students to correct grammar, punctuation, meaning, and stylistic errors in several passages. These corrections require an in-depth understanding of the rules and conventions of written English. I will teach students how to spot errors, identify common traps, and quickly determine the best rendering of each sentence in each passage.
